COOUTH Records Visible Transformation Under Umeakuewulu in First Six Months

The first six months of the tenure of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, have witnessed significant transformation across the teaching hospital.

According to a statement issued by the COOUTH Public Relations (PRO) Team, the teaching hospital has undergone remarkable changes from what it was six months ago when the current CMD assumed office.

The statement noted that the transformation is being driven by a series of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the hospital, improving healthcare delivery and creating a more conducive environment for patients, medical professionals and other stakeholders.

Among the major ongoing reforms at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, is the complete renovation of the Surgical Ward and its private section, a project which, according to the statement, was delivered in less than one month.

The statement said the development represents one of the most visible aspects of the administration’s early interventions, adding that the reforms extend beyond physical infrastructure to encompass a broader agenda for institutional development.

According to the statement, the administration has deliberately focused on improving clinical services, strengthening specialist care, advancing research and medical training, embracing digital innovation and creating a more patient-centred hospital environment.

It stated that the ongoing transformation covers several critical areas of the hospital, including the renovation of the Surgical Ward, the ongoing facelift of the Adult Accident and Emergency Department, digital transformation, expansion of specialist services, improved security and the provision of modern medical equipment.

It added that the administration has also introduced the COOUTH Implant Shop and Healthy Living Shop as part of its efforts to improve access to essential healthcare-related products and services within the hospital environment.

The statement said these interventions are already producing visible changes across various departments and facilities of the teaching hospital within the first six months of the Umeakuewulu administration.

“From the renovated Surgical Ward and the ongoing facelift of the Adult Accident & Emergency Department, to digital transformation, specialist services, improved security, medical equipment, the COOUTH Implant Shop and Healthy Living Shop, the first six months of the Umeakuewulu administration have brought visible changes across the hospital.
“This is transformation with purpose.
“And this is only the beginning,” the statement said.
