Anambra Man Dies After Allegedly Stabbing Wife, Drinking Sniper in Suspected Murder-Suicide
An Anambra State man, identified as Ozoekwe Ezeudu, has died after allegedly stabbing his wife multiple times and ingesting a pesticide known as Sniper in Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which reportedly occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, left the man dead and his wife seriously injured, throwing residents of the community into shock.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Ezeudu had earlier contacted some friends and threatened to kill himself and his wife but declined to explain what prompted the threat.
According to the witness, one of the friends subsequently contacted Ezeudu’s wife to alert her to the threat.
However, she reportedly dismissed the warning, believing her husband was not serious about carrying it out.
The eyewitness alleged that Ezeudu later attacked his wife with a knife, stabbing her in the neck and twice around the waist.
Their children, who were reportedly sleeping downstairs, rushed to intervene after the attack and attempted to separate the couple.
The witness said Ezeudu, apparently believing that his wife had died from her injuries, subsequently locked himself inside a room and ingested Sniper.
He was later reported dead, while his injured wife was rushed to a hospital, where she was receiving medical attention as of the time of filing this report.
Ezeudu, a traditionalist from Akamanato village in Mgbakwu, reportedly had eight children with his wife before recently marrying a second wife. He was also an Ozor title holder.
Residents reportedly gathered at the family compound in confusion as news of the incident spread, with some recounting their last conversations with the deceased.
Meanwhile, traditional title holders were reportedly making arrangements for Ezeudu’s burial in accordance with local customs and traditions.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive behind the alleged attack remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
