The President-General Emeritus of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), Onitsha Archdiocese, Hon. Sir Ifeanyichukwu E. S. Nnajiaku, KSM, has expressed delight over the remarkable progress recorded by the organization since he left office.
Hon. Nnajiaku stated this while speaking with journalists shortly after the maiden convention of the Onitsha Archdiocesan CMO held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity field, Onitsha.
Nnajiaku, who handed over the mantle of leadership to Chief Sir Everistus Ubah, the incumbent President-General, said that six to seven years after leaving office, the CMO has continued to grow from strength to strength.
He pledged to continue supporting the organization at all levels as long as its programmes are aimed at advancing the CMO and the Church at large.
According to him, the idea of a convention had been in the pipeline for long, adding that while successive administrations observed similar events in different forms, the current administration organized it as a full convention themed, “Champion of Christ, Defender of Faith and Family.”
He said the convention brought together all CMO regions in the Archdiocese, including Onitsha Region, Iyiowa-Odekpe, Dunukofia and Nnobi Regions, to chart a way forward for the organization, especially on key projects such as Shanahan University and the construction of an E-Library in the university.
Hon. Nnajiaku noted that the Shanahan University project and the E-Library were part of his agenda which he handed over as assets and liabilities at the end of his tenure.
“The essence of the convention is to remind fathers of their core roles in their families, in the Church and in society at large. The family is a domestic Church. If the family is good, the Church and the society will be good,” he said.
He described the Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, as the Chief Shepherd of the Archdiocese, stressing that the CMO will always support him, particularly in the building of Shanahan University.
He disclosed that Senator Tony Nwoye has taken up the responsibility of building the E-Library and has also donated two vehicles, one for Awada Zone and another for Onitsha Region. He recalled that during his own tenure, a vehicle was secured through former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano.
“I am grateful to God for those He used in CMO, from the foundation to my time in office and after I handed over. This convention is thanksgiving and appreciation to God for what He has been doing in the CMO. I pray for more good things to happen in the organization. I also thank Senator Victor Umeh who pledged N2 million,” he stated.
He concluded with prayers for the founding members and past leaders: “I pray that the efforts of our founding members and past Presidents-General will never be in vain. May God grant eternal rest to those who have died, both leaders and members.”
