Ekwunife Leads APC Blitz to Welcome Nnabuife as Anambra Political Realignment Gathers Steam
The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central and Director of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring for the South-East Zone of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife, CON (Iyom), on Tuesday led a high-powered delegation of APC leaders and stakeholders to the National Assembly, Abuja, to welcome Hon. Princess Chinwe Clara Nnabuife, member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, following her formal defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the APC.
According to a statement released by SUE Media on Tuesday, Hon. Nnabuife announced her decision to join the APC on the floor of the House of Representatives in Abuja, marking a significant development in the evolving political landscape of Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Ekwunife warmly welcomed Hon. Nnabuife into the APC, describing her decision to join the party as timely and significant to its political fortunes in Anambra State.
According to the senator, “There couldn’t have been a better time for her to join the APC.”
Ekwunife acknowledged Hon. Nnabuife’s grassroots followership and political support base, expressing confidence that her entry into the party would strengthen its structure and contribute significantly to its electoral prospects in Anambra State.
She further extended a hand of friendship and collaboration to the federal lawmaker, emphasising the need for unity, cooperation and strategic engagement among party members to secure victory for the APC at all levels in Anambra State in the 2027 general elections.
The delegation comprised Barr. Emeka Okafor, Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC and member of the party’s National Working Committee; Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Odife, former Deputy Governor of Anambra State; Hon. Paul Obu, Deputy Minority Whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly and APC candidate for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency; and Chief Basil Ejidike, former APC Chairman in Anambra State.
Also on the delegation was Dr. Chidi Chidebe, former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, who is now a member of the APC and Director-General of the Senator Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.
The visit provided an opportunity for Senator Ekwunife and the delegation to formally receive Hon. Nnabuife into the APC fold, reaffirm their commitment to working with her and acknowledge her decision to align with the party ahead of the next general elections.
Hon. Nnabuife’s defection comes amid growing political consultations, engagements and realignments across Anambra State as political parties and stakeholders reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. Her move is expected to feature prominently in the political calculations surrounding the contest for influence and electoral support in the state.
The delegation was received by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who graciously admitted the team into the House Chamber to observe plenary proceedings and witness Hon. Nnabuife’s formal declaration of her defection from APGA to the APC.
In a notable moment during the proceedings, Speaker Abbas paid glowing tribute to Senator Ekwunife, fondly known as Iyom, recalling their years of service together in the House of Representatives before her subsequent election to the Senate.
The Speaker acknowledged their longstanding relationship and shared legislative experience, highlighting the enduring bonds forged through years of public service and legislative engagement.
The development marks another significant moment in the political realignments shaping Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With the APC welcoming another serving federal lawmaker into its fold, the party’s growing engagement with political stakeholders could become an important factor in the contest for electoral support and political influence across the state.
