S’East Roads: NANS Passes Vote of Confidence in Tinubu, Umahi
The President of the Senate of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Distinguished Senator Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, has commended the Federal Government for what he described as the quality of road infrastructure being delivered in Anambra State and other parts of the South-East.
Onyia gave the commendation on Monday in Onitsha, Anambra State, during an assessment tour of federal road projects in the State.
He was accompanied on the tour by members of the NANS National Executive, zonal structures, state executives, campus leaders and other students.
The road projects inspected during the tour included the Enugu–Onitsha dual carriageway, the access road linking the Second Niger Bridge, the Asaba–Onitsha Road in Delta and Anambra states (Phase 2B), and the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway, which traverses Anambra and Imo states, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the NANS delegation, Onyia commended what he described as the high standard of construction, the professionalism of the engineers and contractors handling the projects, and the visible pace of work at the various sites inspected.
He noted that the quality of materials used, road alignment and safety features incorporated into the projects met expectations.
According to him, the engineering designs, construction quality, safety provisions and overall finishing reflect a commitment to modern infrastructure standards capable of meeting the expectations of Nigerians.
He also observed that the roads were already easing movement for students, traders and other commuters while helping to reduce the risks faced by road users daily.
The NANS Senate President further commended the Federal Ministry of Works for the standards and professionalism demonstrated across the projects.
He said the quality of work reflected a government committed to delivering durable infrastructure and urged the ministry to sustain the momentum until all the projects were completed.
On behalf of the NANS Senate and Nigerian students, Onyia passed a vote of confidence in the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, citing his commitment, hands-on supervision and performance in the execution of federal road projects.
He also announced a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he credited with sustaining investment in infrastructure development across the country.
Speaking further, Onyia said: “On behalf of NANS, we specifically appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for opening up these vital corridors.
The dualisation works, the Second Niger Bridge (Phase 2B), the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway, and the Eke/Obinagu flyover are not merely construction projects; they are catalysts for new economic opportunities, improved inter-state commerce, accelerated developmental growth, and enhanced safety for millions of road users, including students who regularly travel these routes for academic, commercial, and social purposes.
“These interventions will reduce travel time, lower vehicle operating costs, stimulate local economies along the corridors, and significantly improve safety for all citizens of Anambra, the South-East and adjoining states.” he added.
He thanked the NANS leaders and students who participated in the assessment tour, urging them to continue monitoring public infrastructure projects and providing constructive feedback to the relevant authorities.
Onyia reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to partnering with the government in promoting national development and ensuring that public infrastructure projects deliver meaningful benefits to Nigerians.
