Soludo’s Tinubu Campaign Appointment: A Triumph of Progressive Politics and National Unity
By Christian Aburime
The appointment of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, as the Anambra State Coordinator of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu/APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council is a welcome development worthy of reflection.
It speaks to the kind of unifying politics Nigeria needs and affirms that shared purpose can transcend party affiliations.
It is a well-known fact that Governor Soludo was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while President Tinubu leads the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision to appoint the Governor of Anambra State to coordinate the President’s 2027 re-election campaign in the state is, therefore, significant.
It demonstrates that progressives, notwithstanding their party differences, can work together for the greater good of the country.
It also underscores the political influence Governor Soludo wields in the Southeast and beyond.
However, that influence did not emerge overnight. Long before becoming governor, Professor Soludo was already a central figure in Nigeria’s economic history.
He spearheaded the banking consolidation reforms that reshaped the country’s financial sector and served in key economic leadership positions at the federal level during critical periods in Nigeria’s development.
He understands how the centre operates, how federal and state interests intersect, and how policies can be translated into tangible results for ordinary citizens.
This depth of knowledge is reflected in the meetings of the Anambra State Executive Council, where anyone privileged to serve as a member could, without exaggeration, emerge with enough knowledge to qualify for a doctoral degree after four years!
Yet, few state governors bring to the table the depth of experience in governance and statecraft that Oluatuegwu has demonstrated over the years.
Beyond his impressive credentials, Governor Soludo’s relationship with President Tinubu is also long-standing, having been built on mutual respect over many years.
Both men have been prominent figures in national affairs for decades, and both are known for their engagement with serious ideas and their practical commitment to delivering results.
Since assuming office in Anambra State, Governor Soludo has maintained a constructive working relationship with the Federal Government.
Such cooperation can yield long-term dividends in infrastructure development, security, investment and economic opportunities.
It provides a model of how a state can advance its interests while remaining firmly committed to the broader national project.
The appointment also reflects the confidence reposed in Governor Soludo by the people of Anambra State.
Having secured a fresh mandate from his constituents, he now assumes a broader political responsibility: mobilising support in his state for a president whose reform agenda he has had the opportunity to observe at close range.
For the Southeast, the symbolism of this appointment is equally important.
Anambra State’s voice is being brought into the heart of the national political conversation, reinforcing the idea that the region is an integral partner in Nigeria’s progress.
Governor Soludo is well positioned to convey this message with credibility. He can articulate the aspirations of Ndigbo and make a compelling case for inclusion, equity and shared prosperity within one united Nigeria.
Therefore, congratulations are in order for Governor Soludo, whose appointment represents a well-earned vote of confidence.
Congratulations are also due to President Tinubu and the Presidential Campaign Council for the wisdom of their choice.
Above all, congratulations to Nigerians, who are reminded that when leaders place the country’s interests above partisan considerations, the politics of division can give way to the politics of purpose.
Indeed, the task ahead will be challenging, but Governor Soludo has demonstrated time and again that he is more than equal to demanding responsibilities. Is this not why he is aptly called Oluatuegwu?
Anambra State and Nigeria will be watching with confidence. And, without a doubt, Oluatuegwu will deliver!
Mr.Christian Aburime is the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo
