2027: Anambra Central Youths Defy Party Lines, Rally Behind Ekwunife for Senate
By Titus Eleweke
Hundreds of youths from across Anambra Central Senatorial District, cutting across political party lines, have endorsed Senator Uche Ekwunife, as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election, declaring that her representation in the House of Representatives and the Senate was the best in the political history of the district.
The youths, who converged on Saturday at the Senator Uche Ekwunife Event Centre, expressed satisfaction with what they described as Ekwunife’s outstanding achievements during her previous tenures in the National Assembly.
They pledged to mobilise massive support for her and ensure her victory at the polls in 2027.
They maintained that Anambra Central deserved purposeful, accessible and result-oriented representation, insisting that Ekwunife’s record of achievements and interventions had established a standard they considered unmatched in the district’s political history.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of representation, the youths said their resolve to support Ekwunife transcended political affiliations, stressing that their overriding objective was to restore effective representation and revive the development momentum they associated with her previous tenures in the National Assembly.
A member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) executive from Ebenebe in Awka North Local Government Area, who pleaded anonymity, said the youths would no longer allow political distractions or partisan sentiments to undermine their quest for credible representation.
According to him, their experiences in previous elections had taught them the importance of prioritising competence, proven performance and the collective interest of the constituency over party loyalty.
He said the youths were determined to mobilise support for Ekwunife, adding that they would resist political manoeuvres capable of diverting attention from the need to elect a representative with the experience and capacity to deliver meaningful results.
Similarly, Miss Chiamaka Ideli, a youth from Umuoji who identifies with the All Progressives Congress (APC), recalled Ekwunife’s previous representation of Anambra Central in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ideli said Ekwunife’s tenure was marked by empowerment initiatives and road construction projects that, according to her, positively impacted communities across the constituency.
She expressed optimism that Ekwunife’s anticipated return to the Senate, this time on the platform of the APC, would provide another opportunity for Anambra Central to benefit from her legislative experience, political connections and goodwill.
She argued that effective representation should not be assessed primarily on the basis of party affiliation but on a candidate’s competence, track record and capacity to attract development and deliver tangible benefits to the people.
Other youths affiliated with the Labour Party (LP), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the Accord Party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political platforms expressed similar sentiments, declaring their determination to support Ekwunife in the 2027 senatorial election.
They also rejected the notion of a “Top to Bottom” voting pattern ahead of the general elections, insisting that their choices would be guided by their assessment of individual candidates rather than the political parties controlling the national or state governments.
The youths declared their unwavering commitment to voting for Ekwunife for the Senate, arguing that her return would help restore the vibrancy and quality of representation they associated with Anambra Central during her previous years in the National Assembly.
They further maintained that the district needed a representative with the legislative experience, political reach and commitment to community development required to advance its interests at the national level.
The endorsement, which brought together young people from different political backgrounds, highlighted their call for a shift from partisan loyalty to performance-based political choices as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
