Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has increased the annual scholarship award of the Alex Otti Foundation from ₦250,000 to ₦350,000 per beneficiary, extending the new amount to all current beneficiaries still in school.
Otti announced the increase at the 2026 Alex Otti Foundation Scholarship Banquet held yesterday at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, as part of his continued investment in education and human capital development.
At the event, the governor also rewarded six beneficiaries of the Foundation’s scholarship programme who graduated with First-Class Honours with ₦500,000 each in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.
He challenged the scholars to pursue academic excellence with discipline, humility and commitment, urging them to make the most of the opportunities provided by the scholarship programme.
The banquet also celebrated 81 exceptional young scholars who had joined the Foundation’s scholarship programme.
Otti said the scholarship initiative was designed to support deserving students and empower them to achieve their educational ambitions, stressing the importance of adequate preparation for the future.
He noted that the Foundation had, since 2019, supported hundreds of deserving young people through a transparent and strictly merit-based scholarship programme.
The governor emphasised that the Foundation operated independently of politics and was established to pursue an enduring mission beyond his political career.
According to him, education remains one of the most powerful tools for overcoming poverty, expanding opportunities and building a prosperous society.
He congratulated the scholars on their achievements and encouraged them to remain focused, grateful for the support they had received, and committed to making positive contributions to society.
“The future belongs to those who prepare for it,” he said.
Otti also expressed appreciation to the Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr Nnanna Chidiebere, his team and the panel members for their dedication and contributions to sustaining the scholarship initiative.
He commended their efforts in advancing the Foundation’s vision of promoting educational development and creating opportunities for young people to excel academically.
