2027: Soludo Declares APGA’s Support for Tinubu’s Re-election, Calls for Progressive Alliance

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared the support of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, calling on progressive political forces across the country to unite behind the President.

Soludo said APGA’s decision to support Tinubu was anchored on the shared goals of national unity, security and shared prosperity, which he described as essential pillars for Nigeria’s present and future.

The governor stated this while delivering an extempore speech at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the current political alignment in support of Tinubu represents an unprecedented level of political and elite consensus in Nigeria’s history, citing the presence of about 33 state governors at the event.

“To the best of my knowledge, there is no time in Nigeria’s history that there has been a greater consensus a political and elite consensus,” Soludo said.

He argued that APGA, which he described as Nigeria’s first registered progressive party in 2002, should be recognised as part of the country’s progressive political movement, noting that the APC was registered 12 years later.

The Anambra governor also expressed support for Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, describing the path chosen by the President as difficult but necessary for the country’s long-term transformation.

“In terms of the economic management of this country, there has never been any time in our history when there has been a greater elite consensus about the trajectory of economic reform,” he said.

Soludo maintained that the reforms should be sustained, expressing the belief that a second Tinubu administration would accelerate the country’s transformation from economic stability and reforms to shared prosperity.

He described the anticipated next phase as an acceleration towards what he termed “pragmatic progressivism,” which he said should be entrenched in Nigeria.

The governor called on progressive political parties and leaders to close ranks, insisting that the opportunity to build the Nigeria they envision should not be missed.

“I have called before that all progressives in Nigeria must unite. This is an opportunity we must not miss. We must come together for the new Nigeria that we dream about,” he said.

Soludo further reaffirmed APGA’s willingness to work with Tinubu, declaring that the party would remain a partner to the President not only in his re-election campaign but also in the governance process.

“Mr President, we are with you. We are a partner in this journey back to Aso Rock, and we will remain your partner in the governance process,” the governor declared.

He expressed confidence that a second term would provide an opportunity to accelerate the reform process and translate its gains into broader prosperity for Nigerians.
