2027: Ekwunife’s Record in Focus as Anambra Central Representation Debate Intensifies

By Titus Eleweke

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the record of former Anambra Central Senator, Dr Uche Ekwunife, has come under renewed scrutiny, with her supporters highlighting her reported interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic empowerment across the senatorial district.

In a statement issued by Suncenter Media, the organisation said the debate over representation in Anambra Central should focus on verifiable achievements, documented projects and their tangible impact on the lives of constituents rather than political promises and campaign rhetoric.

Ekwunife, who holds the titles CON, FCNA and IYOM, is being presented by her supporters as a political figure whose years of public service and legislative experience deserve consideration in discussions about the district’s future representation.

The statement identified infrastructure development, educational support, healthcare interventions and empowerment programmes as key areas for assessing her record, while stressing the need to establish what was achieved, the communities that benefited and the sustainability of the interventions.

It noted that Anambra Central comprises seven local government areas: Awka North, Awka South, Anaocha, Dunukofia, Idemili North, Idemili South and Njikoka, arguing that the performance of elected representatives should be assessed against the needs and expectations of residents across the district.

According to Suncenter Media, farmers need better opportunities, young people require skills development and employment pathways, traders need a supportive business environment, while families expect improved roads, quality education, accessible healthcare and essential public infrastructure.

The organisation maintained that these concerns should remain central to evaluating representation, irrespective of political affiliation.

It called for a comprehensive assessment of legislative contributions, constituency engagement, community development projects and interventions in education, healthcare and economic empowerment.

However, Suncenter Media acknowledged that claims that no other senator had matched Ekwunife’s record would require a thorough comparison of the documented achievements of past and present representatives.

Such an assessment, it said, should examine the number, scale and geographical distribution of projects, legislative performance, constituency engagement, empowerment initiatives and the long-term benefits of completed interventions.

The organisation stressed that political achievements should be subjected to public scrutiny and measured against verifiable outcomes rather than partisan arguments.

It further urged political stakeholders to prioritise effective advocacy, development partnerships, educational opportunities, healthcare delivery and programmes that address the needs of young people and local communities.

According to the statement, the debate over representation should provide an opportunity to identify outstanding development needs, assess the performance of public officeholders and establish priorities for the district’s future.
Suncenter Media added that residents deserved representatives who listen to their concerns and pursue improvements that can be felt in their homes, schools, businesses and communities.

It also called for a political culture in which campaign promises are monitored, projects are properly documented and elected officials are assessed against measurable results and the expectations of their constituents.

The organisation maintained that public service experience should be evaluated not only by past activities but also by its contribution to addressing the district’s continuing development challenges.
