Ebonyi Assembly Clears Prof. Amari, Nwite for Commissioner Positions

From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Hon. Moses Odunwa, on Tuesday successfully screened and confirmed Prof. Amari Omaka and Hon. Nwenugwu Nwite for appointment as commissioners in the state executive council.
Their confirmation followed a formal request forwarded to the House by Governor Francis Nwifuru last week, seeking legislative approval for the two nominees to serve as commissioners.
Prof. Omaka, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had previously served as Commissioner for Higher Education under the Nwifuru administration. However, he was relieved of his appointment about six months ago following a communal clash between his Amasiri community and neighbouring Okporojo community.
Hon. Nwite, according to documents submitted to the Assembly, served as a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly in 2007. His tenure, however, was cut short in 2008 following a court judgment that nullified his election.
In line with the House’s standing procedure, both nominees, having previously undergone legislative screening and having served in public offices, were asked to take a bow and leave after introducing themselves before lawmakers.
Speaking separately with Insideoutnews shortly after their confirmation, the commissioner-designates expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their loyalty and commitment to the administration.
They also assured the governor and the people of Ebonyi State of their readiness to work diligently in line with the administration’s development blueprint, the People’s Charter of Needs, aimed at advancing good governance and sustainable development across the state.
Prof. Omaka and Hon. Nwite are expected to be sworn into office later this week.
