The Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Emegha, has urged eligible registered voters in the state to make efforts to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The appeal followed INEC’s announcement that it would commence the issuance of PVCs to eligible registered voters this week.
Emegha made the call while briefing journalists on the outcome of a stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday at the APC state secretariat in Abakaliki, the state capital.
He explained that the meeting was convened by the party to brief stakeholders on important guidelines and issues requiring their attention, describing the gathering as a family meeting.
“The meeting was convened at the instance of the party to inform them of some guidelines they need to know and follow. So, it was a family meeting,” he said.
According to him, all the newly sworn-in chairmen of the 13 local government areas in the state attended the meeting, alongside APC candidates preparing for the forthcoming elections.
Emegha said the gathering also provided an opportunity for the party leadership to listen to the participants, identify their challenges and reconcile members who felt aggrieved following the party’s primaries.
He added that the meeting was part of the party’s efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and address concerns among its members ahead of the forthcoming elections.
“Also, the meeting gave us the opportunity to hear from them, understand the challenges in their respective areas and reconcile those who were aggrieved after the APC primaries,” he said.
The APC chairman, however, used the opportunity to appeal to all eligible voters in Ebonyi State, particularly those who had attained voting age and completed their voter registration, to collect their PVCs.
He stressed that the PVC was not meant exclusively for APC members or supporters but was an essential electoral instrument that enabled every eligible voter to exercise their constitutional right to choose candidates of their preference.
“As a party, we also want to use this opportunity to appeal to eligible voters in the state, especially those who are of voting age and have registered for their Permanent Voter Cards, to go out and collect their cards.
“The PVC is not for APC supporters alone; it is an instrument for every eligible voter to use in voting for the candidates of their choice in the next elections.
“That card is your strength, and it is also what the state will use to bargain at the top,” Emegha stated.
