The member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Joseph Nwobasi, has urged the people of Ezza extraction in Ebonyi State to remain steadfast in their support for the programmes and policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru in 2027.

Nwobasi said such support would strengthen Ezza’s position and improve the clan’s prospects of securing the APC’s backing for its long-standing ambition to produce the governor of Ebonyi State in 2031.

The lawmaker made the appeal on Sunday during an interview with journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.

He urged Ezza people across the state to close ranks, unite behind the APC and work collectively towards the success of the party and its candidates in the forthcoming elections.

“My message to my people, the Ezza clan as a whole, not only Ezza South and Ishielu Local Government Areas, which I represent, but Ezza as a whole, is that we should come together and support the APC.
“Let us come together and support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru, as well as other APC candidates, this time, so that in 2031, our plea, our intention and our expectation as Ezza people to produce a governor will be achievable.
“Irrespective of where the person comes from, as long as the person is an Ezza man, let it be that Ezza has taken its own share. That is our prayer, and we can achieve it when we support the APC wholeheartedly,” Nwobasi said.

On his re-election prospects, the lawmaker dismissed concerns about the emergence of candidates from other political parties, insisting that his grassroots mobilisation and consultations had strengthened his confidence ahead of the contest.

He maintained that every eligible citizen had the constitutional right to contest an election, just as voters had the right to choose their preferred candidates.

“I have no fear of anybody. Everybody has the right to contest, and you have the right to vote and to be voted for. Likewise, every other person,” he said.

Nwobasi further maintained that effective representation should be assessed based on tangible development projects and meaningful interventions that improve the lives of constituents, rather than a lawmaker’s personal wealth or the size of his residence.

According to him, his primary responsibilities as a legislator include lawmaking, legislative oversight and attracting development projects to the grassroots to improve the living conditions of the people he represents.

He added that his performance in previous public offices could be assessed through projects executed in the communities he had represented.

“I am there to represent the people. Whatever is due to the people, I think I should take it to them,” he said.
