Corps Marshal Warns: Pay Fines to Banks, Not Officials , Reiterates Zero Tolerance for Bribery
In a stern declaration aimed at curbing corruption and reinforcing ethical conduct, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has warned motorists against offering bribes to FRSC personnel or attempting to settle fines directly with operatives.
The Corps Marshal said that all fines must be paid into designated banks not to individuals, highlighting that such payments are processed through the Treasury Single Account (TSA), in line with federal policy.
This warning was delivered via an official statement posted Thursday on the FRSC’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, @officialFRSC.
The statement, signed by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters, Abuja, stressed the organization’s zero-tolerance stance on bribery and corruption.
“It is entirely against the ethics, values, and standard operating procedures of the FRSC for any operative to receive—or for any motorist to offer—gratification of any kind during patrol duties,” the statement read.
Mohammed made it unequivocally clear: Any motorist caught attempting to bribe an FRSC officer will be arrested and prosecuted, in accordance with the FRSC Establishment Act of 2007.
The Corps Marshal lamented the rising trend of motorists trying to bypass official channels by offering illicit payments, calling it a direct affront to the agency’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and accountability.
In addition to warning the public, the Corps Marshal also directed a strong message to FRSC staff, cautioning that any officer caught soliciting or accepting bribes will face disciplinary action, including potential dismissal and prosecution.
He encouraged the public to report any incidents of corruption involving FRSC personnel, stating that the agency welcomes and supports whistleblowing as a tool for accountability. Reports can be made via:

Reiterating the Corps’ commitment to enforcing road traffic laws, Mohammed called on motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations governing the movement of persons, animals, and goods across the country. He also commended civic-minded citizens who have reported misconduct by FRSC operatives through proper channels, thereby promoting justice without resorting to violence.
“The FRSC remains unwavering in its duty to uphold the law with the highest standards of integrity,” Mohammed affirmed. “We count on the continued cooperation of the Nigerian public to maintain order and safety on our roads.”
