Evangelist Chinedu Obigwe, National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, has launched a scathing attack on Chief Chekwas Okorie over his criticism of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s decision to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term re-election bid in 2027.
Obigwe described Okorie as a political backstabber, questioning his moral standing to criticise Soludo’s political choices and accusing him of inconsistency in his dealings with political allies.
In a statement, Obigwe said Okorie’s political antecedents were well known to Nigerians, insisting that his criticisms of Soludo reflected an attempt to gain cheap popularity by associating himself with the governor’s political decisions.
According to him, Okorie should not accuse Soludo of fighting former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, simply because the incumbent governor has chosen to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Obigwe argued that Soludo’s decision to support Tinubu should be understood within the context of political choices and alliances, rather than interpreted as a personal attack on Obi.
He also drew a comparison with Obi’s tenure as Anambra governor, arguing that Obi had supported the re-election bid of former President Goodluck Jonathan without facing similar accusations from Okorie.
The APGA media coordinator maintained that Okorie’s criticism of Soludo was inconsistent with the political precedents he cited, questioning why the same standard was not applied to Obi when he supported Jonathan’s re-election.
Obigwe further revisited the controversy surrounding Okorie’s removal as APGA national chairman, alleging that the former party leader had been accused of abandoning the interests of his political ally during the struggle to reclaim a disputed electoral mandate.
He recalled claims associated with the political dispute involving Obi and Victor Umeh, alleging that Okorie had been compromised by those accused of taking Obi’s mandate and subsequently pressured Obi to discontinue his court case.
Obigwe maintained that the controversy surrounding Okorie’s departure from the party’s leadership remained relevant to the credibility of his current criticisms, although the allegations reflect his account of the historical dispute.
Describing Okorie as a politician whose positions were inconsistent, Obigwe insisted that Soludo should not be judged negatively for exercising his political choice in supporting Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
He also stated that Soludo, as APGA’s national leader, enjoyed overwhelming support among the party’s faithful for his decision to back the President ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Wherever Governor Soludo stands is where we will stand,” Obigwe declared.
Hec reaffirmed his support for the governor’s political position.
He further pledged that APGA supporters in Anambra State would vote massively for Tinubu and other APGA candidates in the forthcoming 2027 general election.
Obigwe dismissed Okorie’s criticisms as repetitive and urged the public to disregard what he described as politically motivated attacks against Soludo.
