SASA Operatives Arrest 8 Illegal Levy Collectors in Ogbaru

Operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) have arrested eight suspected illegal levy collectors operating across Ogbaru Local Government Area and the Head Bridge axis.
The arrests followed a coordinated security operation by SASA after intelligence reports and investigations revealed that the suspects had been extorting residents, transport operators, traders, and investors under the false pretense of collecting government-approved levies.
This development marks a significant breakthrough in the agency’s sustained efforts to rid Anambra State of touting, illegal taxation, and other activities that undermine public order and economic confidence.
Confirming the arrests, the Managing Director of SASA, Hon. Monday Nwokoye, stated that the operation was carried out in strict compliance with the directive of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, which prohibits all forms of illegal cash collection across the state.
Hon. Nwokoye emphasized that all legitimate government levies must be paid exclusively through the official Anambra State Point-of-Sale (POS) payment system.
According to him, this policy is aimed at ensuring proper documentation, transparency, accountability, and the elimination of revenue leakages.
He issued a stern warning that any individual or group found collecting money from residents, visitors, commercial bus drivers, tricycle (keke) operators, traders, or investors without proper authorization would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“Anambra State is not a playground for touts or illegal levy collectors,” Nwokoye declared.
He further assured residents and investors that the state government, through SASA and other security agencies, will continue to intensify enforcement operations to dismantle illegal networks, safeguard public spaces, protect lawful businesses, and maintain a secure and investor-friendly environment across the state.
