30 Years Fighting Insecurity in Anambra Was Hell on Earth — Agunechemba Commander
The Commander of Operations of the Agunechemba Security Squad, Chief Chinenye Ihenkor, has revealed that he has spent three decades fighting insecurity in Anambra State, describing the experience as tough and, at times, “hell on earth.”
Ihenkor made the remarks shortly after receiving the Peace and Security Legend Award presented to him by the management of Nigerian Radar Magazine in Awka, Anambra State.
Speaking after the award presentation, the security chief reflected on his three decades of service in the security sector, noting that the journey had been filled with enormous challenges, risks, and sacrifices.
“These 30 years of my life have been dedicated to the protection of lives and property in Anambra State.
However, I must tell you that the journey has not been easy,”
“It has been a tough 30 years of policing and security operations in Anambra State, but with God, all things are possible.”he said.
According to him, security personnel in the state have endured numerous attacks, threats, and operational challenges while working tirelessly to ensure the safety of residents.
“We have passed through hell and faced countless attacks and challenges in our efforts to ensure that the people and residents of Anambra State can sleep peacefully with both eyes closed.”
“I have gone through so many challenges, but the most important thing is that I am still alive today.”
“I have experienced countless difficult days in the course of my duties in Anambra State. To tell you the truth, they are too many to count.”
“Any day I go out for an operation is a difficult day for me, and any day I deploy my personnel is also a difficult day. When you consider the number of years I have spent in service, you can imagine how many challenging days that amounts to,” he added.
Reacting to the honour, Ihenkor said that although he was not entirely surprised by the recognition, he was deeply grateful that his efforts and sacrifices had not gone unnoticed.
“I cannot say that I was not expecting the award because it shows that people are aware of what we are doing and appreciate our efforts.”
“This award is not just for me; it is a success story for the Udo Ga-Achi initiative and the Agunechemba Security Squad as a whole.”
“I thank the organisation that presented this award to me, and I encourage them to continue their good work in recognising excellence and service to society.”he added.
The security Chief also expressed gratitude to the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for providing the platform and support necessary for the security outfit to function effectively.
“I want to thank Governor Charles Soludo because, without his support and commitment to security, we would not have been here today doing this job.”
“I also appreciate the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, for his leadership qualities and dedication in the fight against insecurity in Anambra State.”he said.
He stressed that security remains a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of all members of society.
“This is because security is not the responsibility of one person alone. It is everyone’s duty, regardless of position, status, or level in society,” he said.
Earlier, the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of The Radar Magazine, Mr. Anthony C. Okwunebe, explained that Ihenkor was among 50 outstanding personalities selected by the organisation for recognition due to their remarkable contributions to society.
According to Okwunebe, the award recipients were carefully chosen from different sectors based on their impact on the lives of citizens and their contributions to national development.
“We identified 50 outstanding personalities who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavour and whose contributions have positively impacted society. Chief Chinenye Ihenkor is one of those deserving personalities,” he stated.
He urged public office holders and individuals occupying positions of responsibility to view their roles primarily as opportunities for service to humanity rather than avenues for personal gain.
According to him, the individual and collective efforts of committed leaders and public servants would continue to produce multiplier effects that would benefit the nation as a whole.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr. Okechukwu Dominic, described the award as a major source of motivation and encouragement for security operatives in the state.
According to him, the recognition would inspire officers and personnel to remain dedicated and committed to their duties.
“We are not surprised that people are commending us for the work we are doing. We are proud of the Director of Operations and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Prince Kenneth Emeakayi, for their leadership roles in the fight against insecurity.”
“Above all, we thank the Governor for finding us worthy to serve under his administration and contribute our quota toward ensuring the safety of lives and property across Anambra State,” he said
