“Four political parties inaugurate 4,600-member Presidential Campaign Council”

The re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received a major political boost in Anambra State as four political parties , the All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party , united their structures to support his second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The alliance, which brought together prominent politicians from the four parties, culminated in the inauguration of more than 4,600 members of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Sunday.

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who served as the state coordinator of the campaign council, said the alliance was driven by the need for Ndigbo to abandon what he described as emotional politics and embrace strategic partnerships with the Federal Government to accelerate development in the South-East.

Soludo argued that decades of political isolation had failed to advance the region’s quest for the presidency and other developmental aspirations.

“What we are battling with is between emotion and reason. We have been through this before, and Ndigbo have been battling to produce the President of Nigeria since 1979.
“We have been having all other positions but one, which is the presidency. But how do we get there? We need strategic partnership with the centre, which is workable. The money for these infrastructural developments is not from Anambra or any state in the South-East but from the Federal Government,” he said.

The governor maintained that supporting the government at the centre was in the interest of the South-East, warning against political strategies that could further isolate the region.

“This is why it matters that we back the government at the centre. Some people are saying no and let us fail, but there are consequences for failing, and no one gets second position in an election. It is always first.
“Our lone-ranger status in politics is our bane, and we shall continue to say the truth no matter what they say,” Soludo said.

He further argued that the region’s longstanding politics of protest had yielded little tangible progress.

“From the days of former President Buhari until now, we have been playing politics of protest, and it has led us nowhere at all. That is why we have remained the way we are,” he added.

Soludo said political interest should guide the region’s choices, noting that Tinubu had won the 2023 presidential election despite receiving only about 5,000 votes in Anambra State.

“Politics is all about interest, and it is in the interest of Ndigbo to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who, despite our 5,000 votes in the last election, won the election. So it means that despite the votes from here, he can still be president,” he said.

The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, Bar. Emeka Okafor, who represented the party’s national chairman, described the alliance as instructive and commendable.

Okafor said the political partnership among the four parties could have significant multiplier effects on infrastructural development in the South-East.

“We commend Mr Governor for this meeting, and we in the APC are in total support of this alliance. We urge everyone to embrace it,” he said.

The Anambra State APC chairman, Sen. Emma Anosike, also expressed support for the alliance, praising Soludo’s administration and urging political stakeholders to position the state to benefit from federal opportunities.

“Mr Governor, we see the good works of your administration. I must say that what is good is good, and Anambra State is the salt of the nation.
“We are here for a particular purpose, and that is to make sure that we are part of the cake that is being shared in Abuja comfortably,” Anosike said.

He described the APC as Africa’s largest political party and expressed confidence that its alliance with APGA and other parties would strengthen Tinubu’s re-election prospects in Anambra.

Anosike also credited the Tinubu administration with improvements in infrastructure, citing the journey between Enugu and Awka and developments in Onitsha.

He urged politicians seeking other elective offices to demonstrate their capacity during campaigns, while stressing that supporting Tinubu’s re-election remained a shared priority.

The National Chairman of APGA, Bar. Sylvester Ezeokenwa, described the gathering as significant because it brought together political parties and blocs across the state in support of one presidential candidate.

“All of us are gathered in solidarity because we are united in one purpose, and that is to re-elect our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for a second term in office.
“For the first time, this is happening in Anambra State, and we commend Mr Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, for making this happen in our state,” Ezeokenwa said.

He noted that APGA, APC, PDP and Accord were supporting the same presidential candidate, expressing confidence that their unity would deliver victory in 2027.

The APC senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, also commended Soludo for bringing together prominent politicians from the four parties.

Ekwunife described the meeting as far-reaching and urged the participating parties to ensure that all hands were on deck to secure Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election.
