The Governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Sir Paul Chukwuma, alongside his running mate, Dr. Uzu Okagbue, has declared that Anambra State must undergo a fundamental leadership transformation in order to better serve its people.

This assertion follows a series of intensified grassroots engagements across the state, involving diverse segments of Anambra’s society and transcending party lines.

Running under the rallying call “Anambra Deserves Better”, and buoyed by the hopeful message “Joy is Coming,” the YPP has positioned itself as a credible and formidable alternative to the over two-decade political dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state.

During a strategic meeting held in Awka-Etiti at the residence of Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, the YPP Deputy Governorship candidate, Dr. Okagbue, engaged with former members of the Anambra State Executive Council who served under the administration of Mr. Peter Obi (2006–2014).

Speaking at the gathering, Okagbue acknowledged the enduring relevance of the group and emphasized that the success of any administration is inherently tied to the quality and commitment of its team.

He urged the former officials to lend their experience and credibility towards rewriting the political narrative of Anambra while they still possess the capacity to effect meaningful change.

Describing the meeting as an “impactful engagement steeped in deep thought, clarity of vision, institutional memory, and shared commitment to Anambra’s future,”

Okagbue noted that it reaffirmed the YPP’s commitment to inclusive governance and strategic partnerships.

Present at the meeting were several high-profile members of the Obi administration, including Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike (former Chief of Staff), Prof. Stella Okunna (former Commissioner for Information), Architect Callistus Ilozumba (former Commissioner for Works), Barr. Chukwuebuka Okoli-Akirika, Dr. Ego Uzoezie, among others.

The dialogue was frank and substantive, with Okagbue responding decisively to key policy questions and governance challenges raised by the group.

Many of the attendees expressed confidence in the Chukwuma-Okagbue ticket, describing it as a “solid, reform-minded team” capable of steering Anambra State toward a new and progressive trajectory.

Chief Uzodike, in particular, emphasized the volatility of the current political climate, warning that dismissing the YPP as a fringe contender would be a grave miscalculation.

“This election is still open,” “Anyone overlooking the YPP does so at significant political risk.”he cautioned.

In a similar outreach effort, the YPP team visited Ihiala Local Government Area and met with respected community leader, Nze Chimezie Ikebuaso.

Enthused by the YPP’s message of accountable and visionary leadership, Ikebuaso pledged his full support for the party in the November 8 Anambra Governorship Election, vowing to mobilize grassroots efforts in favor of the YPP across Ihiala.

The YPP’s approach marks a bold shift in Anambra’s political discourse away from the politics of patronage and complacency, toward inclusive governance, results-oriented leadership, and people-driven development.
