Labour Party Fires Back, Says No Amount of Intimidation Can Stop Amobi Ogah

The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has reaffirmed its unwavering confidence in the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, declaring that he remains focused and committed to effective representation despite recent political developments involving his predecessor, former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
The party assured constituents that Hon. Ogah remains resolute, undeterred, and committed to delivering quality representation and the dividends of democracy to the people who entrusted him with the mandate.
The position of the party was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Comrade Iroegbu Emenike.
According to the statement, the party had undertaken extensive consultations and engagements with Hon. Ogah and was satisfied that the lawmaker remains in high spirits and fully committed to the discharge of his legislative responsibilities.
The Labour Party assured the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, members of the party, and Abians generally that the federal lawmaker remains dedicated to lawmaking, constituency development, and the protection of the interests of those who freely elected him during the 2023 general election.
The party stressed that Hon. Ogah cannot be intimidated, distracted, or discouraged from carrying out the constitutional responsibilities for which he was elected, urging constituents to remain calm, steadfast, and continue supporting their representative.
Reaffirming its support for the lawmaker, the party described Hon. Ogah as a committed and dedicated member of the House of Representatives who has consistently worked to deliver the dividends of democracy to his constituents.
The Labour Party further emphasized that democracy thrives on the freely expressed will of the people, noting that the outcome of the 2023 general election reflected the electorate’s desire for a new political direction, with Hon. Ogah emerging victorious through what it described as a transparent, free, and credible democratic process.
The party advised former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, to allow the serving lawmaker to concentrate on the mandate freely given to him by the people and to refrain from actions capable of creating unnecessary political tension and distractions within the constituency.
While acknowledging that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to seek legal redress where necessary, the party maintained that judicial processes should not be deployed as instruments of political intimidation, harassment, or undue pressure against duly elected public officials.
According to the statement, if Hon. Onyejeocha believes she still enjoys the confidence and support of the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, the appropriate democratic avenue would be to present herself before the electorate and seek a fresh mandate during the next general election.
The party highlighted Hon. Ogah’s record in office, describing him as one of the most active and impactful first-term members of the House of Representatives.
It cited his legislative interventions, sponsorship of bills and motions, execution of constituency projects, educational support programmes, scholarship initiatives, healthcare interventions, youth empowerment schemes, and regular engagement with constituents as clear evidence of purposeful and responsive representation.
According to the Labour Party, these achievements have earned the lawmaker widespread recognition beyond his constituency and established him as one of the notable performing legislators in the current National Assembly.
The party expressed concern over what it described as deliberate attempts to distract or politically undermine the lawmaker, insisting that such actions neither serve the interests of the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency nor contribute to democratic development.
It called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women’s organisations, religious leaders, and other critical stakeholders to continue supporting Hon. Ogah in his efforts to provide people-oriented representation and accelerate development across the constituency.
Reaffirming the party’s position, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Hon. Peter Azubuike, assured Hon. Ogah of the unwavering support of the State Working Committee and the entire Labour Party family in the state.
The chairman commended the lawmaker’s performance in office, describing it as commendable and impactful, and pledged the party’s continued support as he discharges his constitutional responsibilities on behalf of his constituents.
The Labour Party expressing confidence that Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah would continue to justify the confidence reposed in him by the electorate through quality representation, effective legislation, and sustained people-centred development initiatives.
