Agunechemba Drops Bombshell: Rights Activist beneficiary of  Kidnap Syndicate in Anambra

Harrison Gwamnishu

The Agunechemba Security Network, also known as Udo Ga Achi, operating in Anambra State, has made serious allegations against self-proclaimed human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu. In a strongly worded press release signed by its spokesperson, Comrade Nweke Nweke, the group accused Gwamnishu of having no identifiable source of legitimate income while allegedly benefiting from kidnapping-related activities in the region.

Agunechemba criticized what it described as the deceptive public portrayal of Gwamnishu as a human rights defender, claiming that this façade conceals his alleged involvement in criminal enterprises. The group cited a viral video recently circulated on social media in which Gwamnishu publicly defends Mrs. Chineye Ikwo, a suspect allegedly connected to a notorious kidnapping syndicate.

In the video, Gwamnishu refers to Ikwo as a pregnant woman an attempt, according to Agunechemba, to garner public sympathy and mislead viewers about the gravity of the charges she faces. Contrary to his claims, the group clarified that Ikwo is a nursing mother whose husband has confessed to multiple kidnappings targeting high profile individuals across Nnewi, Ekwulobia, and Ihiala areas of Anambra State.

“In a follow-up video, Harrison Gwamnishu orchestrated a scripted narrative featuring Mrs. Ikwo, clearly intended to undermine the ongoing investigation into her role in the syndicate,”  “He deliberately concealed the fact that evidence directly linked to kidnapping operations was recovered from her residence, prompting her arrest and subsequent interrogation.”he said.

Agunechemba further condemned what it described as Gwamnishu’s persistent efforts to distract public attention from Ikwo’s alleged complicity.

“Rather than addressing her role in aiding and abetting her husband’s criminal activities, he chose to exploit social media to fabricate a humanitarian narrative for a couple allegedly involved in serial kidnappings,” the spokesperson said.

Responding to Gwamnishu’s claims in the same video that the group illegally detained a nursing mother, Agunechemba categorically denied the allegations. They stated that both Ikwo and her children were held in a secure location, provided with adequate nutrition and medical care.

“In fact, both the mother and her children were in better health upon release than when they were brought in,”  “Mrs. Ikwo, who had been living a lavish lifestyle allegedly funded by ransom proceeds, is a suspect by virtue of her full awareness of her husband’s criminal activities.”Nweke stated.

He emphasized that Ikwo’s release should not be misconstrued as an acquittal.

“She, along with other occupants of the building and the landlord, remains a person of interest under Anambra State law,” Nweke said.

He added that her temporary relocation was a precautionary measure to prevent interference with the ongoing investigation, and that her subsequent unofficial release was purely procedural.

The group also issued a stark warning regarding Harrison Gwamnishu’s alleged conduct.

“Our office has credible intelligence suggesting that Mr. Gwamnishu, based in Delta State, may be receiving financial kickbacks from ransom payments,” “His repeated attempts to obstruct investigations into kidnapping networks operating within Anambra State will not be overlooked.” he warned.

According to Nweke, this is not the first time Gwamnishu has tried to discredit the local security outfit.

“He is fully aware that he is under surveillance due to his suspected connections with major kidnapping rings,” Nweke added.

He  urged the public and relevant stakeholders to exercise caution in any dealings with Harrison Gwamnishu.

Nweke reiterated that Gwamnishu is now under heightened scrutiny, and investigations into his activities are being prioritized by local law enforcement.
