ADC Anambra Fires Warning: Police Must Not Compromise in Tomorrow’s By-Elections

Retired DIG Celestine Okoye

Deputy Director of Security for the Anambra State governorship campaign of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Celestine Okoye, has warned  police against  Compromise in tomorrow’s by elections.

He also declared that the party is fully prepared for the upcoming elections in the state ,noting that it would accept lack of professionalism from the security operatives.

Okoye made this statement on Friday during a press briefing held at the ADC headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

According to him, the ADC is confident of securing victory in the elections, particularly given the caliber of candidates it has fielded for the two by-elections scheduled for Saturday.

“Our candidate possesses an unassailable credibility that no one in the state can question,” he stated.

He  said that the party is firmly established across the state and ready for the elections, which he described as a test of the ADC’s growing popularity in Anambra.

Okoye further assured that the party remains committed to fulfilling every campaign promise.

“Our candidate has a solid track record and a distinguished character. His involvement in politics has not tarnished his reputation in any way,” he said.

He also spoke highly of the ADC’s candidate for the Onitsha North I Constituency, Mrs. Justina Azuka, describing her as a person of integrity.

According to him, Mrs. Azuka, the widow of a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly has demonstrated commendable character and capacity to provide purposeful representation, which earned her the party’s nomination.

Okoye advised all security personnel deployed for the elections to uphold a high sense of professionalism in discharging their duties.

“Security officers deployed by the police must not compromise their positions under any circumstances,” he warned.

DIG Okoye reiterated that Saturday’s election would serve as a litmus test for the ADC ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election.

He added that if the ADC wins, it will prioritize addressing the pressing issue of insecurity currently plaguing the state.

“The major challenge confronting Anambra today is insecurity. Many people believe it is  just kidnapping, but it goes beyond that. We have lost a significant number of our youth, those who would have been the foot soldiers in building the state. The few remaining have fled out of fear,” he stated.

He further assured that an ADC-led government would also tackle food insecurity, the collapsed education system, the deteriorating healthcare sector, and other critical issues affecting the state.
