Anambra Politics: Stop the Hate, Save the State
Map of Anambra State
Titus Eleweke
As Anambra State moves closer to another critical governorship election, the political atmosphere is increasingly polluted, not by issues, not by vision, not by ideas but by hate speech, personal attacks, and disgraceful banter from candidates, their deputies, campaign organizations, and their loyal followers.
It is not just disappointing,it is dangerous. What we are witnessing, particularly in the verbal warfare between camps of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), is appalling. These are not street thugs; these are individuals who claim to have the capacity to govern. Yet, their utterances reflect nothing but recklessness and a deep disregard for the peace, unity, and dignity of Anambra State.
In contrast, the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Ozo Jeff Nweke, has stood out as a rare voice of reason. He continues to champion issue-based campaigns, mutual respect, and genuine concern for the future of the state. His call for love, tolerance, and maturity should not be ignored in this season of senseless mudslinging.
Iam honestly calling for an immediate ceasefire on hate speech and political toxicity. After all, once the ballots are counted and the dust settles, Anambra will still be home to all its sons and daughters, regardless of political party or personal ambition. No political win is worth tearing the state apart.
I also address our youths.Do not let yourself become a tool in the hands of politicians who know where to meet in private while encouraging you to shed blood in public. In Abuja, Lagos, even London, these so-called enemies toast to each other in expensive lounges while the poor youths they deceive are left to suffer the consequences of their actions.
Do not fight battles that are not yours.
Too often, young people allow themselves to be pawns in political games that bring them no benefit. These “big men” and “big women” who preach division on stage are often the same people cutting deals behind closed doors. When the election is over, they realign, reconcile, and regroup meanwhile, you are left with wounds, criminal records, or even worse.
This is a warning, a plea, and a call to conscience.
To those spreading hate, your words are seeds, and when they grow into violence, you will be responsible for the harvest. To the candidates, campaign with dignity. Show us what you intend to do, not who you intend to destroy. To the people of Anambra, protect your peace, your unity, and your future.
Anambra does not belong to any politician or party. It belongs to the people, and it must be protected by all.
Let us choose peace. Let us choose progress. Let us choose Anambra first.
