Within the next two weeks, ahead of the closure of the party’s digital membership registration, the Awka North chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is targeting the registration of 15,000 new members.

This development comes as stakeholders of the party in the area have petitioned Governor Charles Soludo and the National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa, calling for the correction of what they describe as an imbalance in the nomination of candidates for the Awka North and South Federal Constituency.

According to an aspirant for the Awka North and South Federal Constituency and a member of the State House of Assembly, Chief John Nwokoye, the ongoing digital registration of members is crucial to the party’s chances in the forthcoming general elections.

He added that the party is aiming to register at least 15,000 new members within the stipulated timeframe.

“We have just two weeks left before the end of the registration exercise, and we are mobilising extensively to ensure we register at least 15,000 new members. All our ward leaders have been adequately sensitised on this,” he said.

In a resolution signed by stakeholders of the party in Awka North Local Government Area, following a meeting convened by former Chairman of the council, Chief Cosmas Okonkwo—the group lamented what it described as a long-standing imbalance in representation within the Awka North and South Federal Constituency.

The resolution noted:“From our observations, Awka South has produced members of the House of Representatives for twenty-four years, while Awka North has had representation in the National Assembly for only four years.”

“After a thorough review of the representation history of the Awka Federal Constituency, we resolve that it is fair, just, and necessary for Awka North to produce the party’s candidate for the National Assembly.”

They concluded with an appeal:“We call on the leadership of our great party to zone the APGA ticket to Awka North Local Government Area in the interest of equity and fairness.”the stakeholders further stated.
