At 90, I’m Fulfilled, Awka Monarch Title Not Claimed by Wishful Thinking — Obi Gibson Nwosu
Eze Uzu II, Obi Gibson Nwosu of Awka Kingdom
The traditional ruler of Awka Ancient Kingdom, Obi Gibson Nwosu (Eze Uzu II), has described individual claiming the throne and parading himself as “His Imperial Majesty” and Eze Uzu III of Awka as attempting to “play God.”
In a chat with our reporter, the monarch stated that he feels fulfilled at 90 and remains convinced that whatever God has not destined cannot come to pass.
Nwosu, who turns 90 on Saturday, said that at his age he has achieved fulfillment in life and believes firmly that no one can distort what God has ordained.
“Regardless of how anyone tries to undermine what God has destined, he will not succeed. What God has ordained will happen exactly as He wills, and no one can change it,” he said.
He advised his subjects in Awka to remain steadfast, stressing that no individual can alter divine will by laying claim to what does not belong to him.
“He is just wasting his time. No matter what he does, events will unfold only according to God’s will, and he cannot become what he claim to be,” he added.
Addressing the younger generation, the monarch emphasized that titles and positions are not attained by mere declaration or desire.
“Somebody is claiming to be ‘His Imperial Majesty,’ but such claims can only be validated if God ordains him. If God has not destined it, it will never come to pass,” he said.
Despite the report of the Commission of Inquiry set up by the Anambra State Government to investigate the over ten-year-old Eze Uzu succession dispute, tensions has continued to intensify.
This followed an announcement by Ozo Austin Ndigwe regarding the celebration of the Imo Awka festival, in which he insisted that he remains the Eze Uzu III of Awka.
Ndigwe announced that the Imo Awka festival would hold on April 22 and 23, and expressed appreciation to the town’s Chief Priest for fixing the dates.
It will be recalled that prior to the establishment of the commission, the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, had advised Ndigwe at his residence to stop parading himself as Eze Uzu, noting that a town cannot have two monarchs. He urged patience, affirming that Eze Uzu II remains the recognized traditional ruler of Awka Kingdom.
Currently, tension grips Awka, the state capital, amid fears of a possible show of force between rival factions, even as the government has yet to make a fresh pronouncement on the latest developments. However, government has maintained its earlier position that Ndigwe is not the monarch of the town.
