Soludo Names Azikiwe COOU Pro-Chancellor

Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwualu

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has approved the appointment of Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwualu as Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

Professor Onwualu, a renowned scholar in Agricultural Engineering, is the current Vice-Chancellor of African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, and a former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.

A distinguished engineer and award-winning administrator, Professor Onwualu has made extensive contributions to the development of Agricultural and Materials Engineering in Nigeria. 

He brings to his new role a wealth of experience and multidisciplinary expertise.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime, Professor Onwualu’s exceptional leadership record includes holding several strategic positions across reputable institutions.

 These include serving as a Visiting Professor at the National Universities Commission and as Co-Centre Leader of the World Bank-funded Pan African Materials Institute, among others.

In addition, Professor Onwualu has authored over 200 publications and holds 10 patents. 

He has received awards from more than 70 organizations and is a fellow of 12 scientific and professional bodies.

Governor Soludo, who serves as the Visitor to the state-owned university, also approved the appointment of other members of the Governing Council as follows:Chief Christopher Ndubuisi

HRH Igwe Chidume Oranu,Professor Josephat O. Ogbuagu AIG (Rtd.) Sir Chris Ezike.

The newly appointed members of the Governing Council are expected to leverage their diverse and extensive experience to strengthen the university’s governance and advance its pursuit of academic excellence.
