As party primaries ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections draw closer, the frontline aspirant for the State House of Assembly seat in Okpoko, Ogbaru I Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Sir Kenneth Akwuobi, has declared that he will emulate the eloquence and debating style of the late Senator Chuba Okadigbo if elected.

Akwuobi made this assertion at Okpoko Community Primary School 3 during his official declaration of intent to contest the State House of Assembly seat for Ogbaru I Constituency.

According to him, the House of Assembly is a centre for robust debate, where honourable members are expected to demonstrate intellectual depth, articulate arguments, and effectively represent the interests of their constituents.

“Going to the State House is not about occupying a seat as a benchwarmer. If elected, you will witness a replication of Chuba Okadigbo’s oratory and legislative excellence in the Anambra State House of Assembly. Give me two years, and I will change the narrative of Okpoko. I will transform Okpoko just as I transformed Ogbaru Local Government within one year and a few months,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure as Mayor of Ogbaru, Akwuobi stated that he assumed office with a clear commitment to redefine leadership and reposition the council to meet acceptable standards.

He highlighted key achievements of his administration, including the construction and furnishing of a legislative complex, the rebuilding of a traditional rulers’ complex destroyed during unrest, and the ongoing construction of a modern two-storey administrative building equipped with gender-friendly facilities.

The mayor also cited the renovation of offices within the secretariat, provision of new furniture, installation of a modern council signpost, and the construction of a solar-powered borehole as part of his developmental strides.

According to him, his administration extended development projects to all 16 wards through a ₦20 million Community Projects Initiative, executed in collaboration with ward councillors and community leaders.

In separate remarks, community leaders, including Mr John Ezeoli and Chief Emma Onuikpe, commended Akwuobi’s performance, describing him as a “child of destiny” and affirming that Okpoko stands firmly behind his ambition.

Also speaking, Chief Emeka Asonya pledged to purchase the nomination form for Akwuobi, stating that his support is rooted in the mayor’s proven track record.

Other stakeholders, including Dan Obi, Chief Alex Ikeokolo, Hon. Zeribe Ezeanuna, and Councillor Chidiebere Umechukwu, expressed confidence in Akwuobi’s leadership capacity, noting that he would provide effective representation if elected.

They maintained that Akwuobi’s achievements in office position him as a credible candidate capable of delivering quality representation at the State House of Assembly.
