No misunderstanding between me and Umahi — Gov. Nwifuru
Francis Nwifuru
From Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has clarified his relationship with his predecessor and political mentor, David Nweze Umahi, dismissing reports of any rift between them.
Nwifuru denied claims of a misunderstanding between him and Umahi, who currently serves as Minister of Works.
He made this known on Sunday, urging members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to remain united and disregard attempts to create division within the party.
This was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.
The governor called on party leaders, aspirants, and members to close ranks and make necessary sacrifices in the overall interest of the APC.
The statement came barely 48 hours after a series of stakeholder and party engagement meetings aimed at harmonising the 33 elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwifuru commended stakeholders for their active participation and valuable contributions, noting that their inputs were critical in shaping decisions targeted at strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
He reiterated that the APC in Ebonyi remains “one indivisible family,” assuring that all aspirants seeking elective positions would be treated fairly in line with agreements reached during the consultations.
Describing media reports of a crack in his relationship with Umahi as baseless, the governor said such claims were intended to cause unnecessary division within the party.
“We (Umahi and I) are working in harmony to advance the progress and stability of the APC in the state.
Any outstanding concerns arising from the recently concluded consensus process will be resolved amicably through dialogue involving all relevant stakeholders to ensure inclusiveness ahead of the 2027 elections.”he said .
