The Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State was agog as Governor Charles Soludo, 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, Senators Uche Ekwunife and Osita Izunaso, among other dignitaries, graced the traditional marriage ceremony of Dr Raphael Ngige, first son of Senator Chris Ngige, and his wife, Barrister Ginikachukwu Chetanna Nwandu.
The occasion, which brought together political allies across various divides, witnessed a rare reunion of the political class in the state, as leaders set aside their differences to celebrate the new couple.
Also present at the ceremony was the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Sir Victor Umeh, alongside members of the Federal House of Representatives, as well as serving and former political office holders from within and outside the state.
Speaking at the event, former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, whose joy knew no bounds, told reporters that the occasion marked a moment of fulfilment for him and the entire Ngige clan of Alor town in Idemili South Local Government Area. He described the marriage as a significant milestone, noting that “the coast of the family is being widened.”
Ngige added that the ultimate joy and dream of every parent is to see their children grow into responsible and functional members of Igbo society.
“What else can I say but to give glory to God Almighty that I shall soon become a grandfather, and that I am alive to see my children’s children,” he said.
“I am deeply grateful and extend my heartfelt appreciation to the tumultuous crowd that witnessed this momentous occasion. I equally wish everyone the same gracious experience in their families,” Ngige added.
In his remarks, Governor Charles Soludo noted that the large turnout and peaceful atmosphere of the event once again vindicated his administration’s success in ensuring the safety of lives and property in Anambra State. He added that the improved security architecture in the state had encouraged residents to return home en masse, making this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations a flagship for subsequent festive seasons.
Governor Soludo prayed for everlasting love, peace, and understanding for the newly wedded couple, noting that the foundation of a fruitful marriage lies in mutual understanding, effective communication, and shared commitment between spouses.
