INEC Confirms All 22 Parties Submitted Membership Registers

I’mThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have successfully submitted their membership registers to the Commission in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
INEC disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
The Commission explained that the submissions followed an extension granted after political parties raised concerns over the initial timeline during a consultative meeting held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, on the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.
According to the Commission, all registered political parties submitted their membership registers on or before May 8, 2026, two days ahead of the extended deadline.

The statement read:“Following a meeting with political parties, the Commission, in a press statement issued on March 27, 2026, adjusted the deadline for the submission of party membership registers from April 21, 2026, to May 10, 2026. This adjustment was made to align with the provisions of Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the actual dates fixed by political parties for the conduct of their primaries.
“Political parties were accordingly permitted to conduct their primaries within the approved period from April 23, 2026, to May 30, 2026, while the register of party members was required to be submitted to the Commission not later than 21 days before the conduct of their respective primaries.”
INEC further stated that the timely submission by all political parties demonstrates compliance with the Electoral Act and the Commission’s regulations guiding party administration and electoral processes.
The Commission added that it would subject the submitted registers to the necessary verification processes in accordance with the law to ensure transparency, credibility, and accountability ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“INEC remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections,” .
