Anambra NDC Protests Alleged Marginalization of State Chairman, Passes Vote of Confidence
By Sunny A. David, Onitsha
Members and stakeholders of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Anambra State have raised concerns over what they described as coordinated attempts to undermine and sideline the State Chairman of the party, Mr. David Patrick Chukwudifu.
The concerns came to the fore during a peaceful rally held in Onitsha on Thursday, where party faithful and supporters publicly reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Chukwudifu.
Protesters carried placards condemning alleged interference in the party’s affairs and accused Senator Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra North Senatorial District, of being involved in efforts to destabilize the party’s structure in the State.
Addressing journalists during the rally, a prominent party stakeholder, Mr. Stephen Ajaraogu, declared that members would no longer tolerate what he described as persistent attempts to weaken the duly recognized leadership of the NDC in Anambra State.
According to him, committed party members who had invested their time, resources, and energy in building the party should not be pushed aside at a time when the NDC is gaining increasing political acceptance and grassroots support across the State.
Ajaraogu warned individuals allegedly plotting to hijack the party structure to desist immediately, stressing that similar political maneuvers had previously contributed to internal crises and instability within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He explained that the rally, organized by NDC youths and stakeholders in Anambra State, was intended to send a strong message to both the State and National leadership of the party that the ongoing crisis, if not urgently addressed, could threaten the unity, credibility, and future progress of the NDC in the State.
“As far as the NDC in Anambra State is concerned, all party activities and decisions must be conducted through the recognized leadership headed by the State Chairman, Mr. David Patrick Chukwudifu,” Ajaraogu stated.
Also speaking during the rally, Mrs. Nkechi Aneke called on politicians allegedly involved in the dispute to allow the Chairman to continue piloting the affairs of the party without intimidation or interference.
She commended Chukwudifu for what she described as his unwavering dedication, personal sacrifices, and financial contributions toward the growth and consolidation of the party in Anambra State.
Aneke described the rally as a clear demonstration of solidarity, loyalty, and confidence in the Chairman, insisting that he had remained steadfast and committed to the party despite mounting political pressures and challenges.
“He remains the only Chairman we recognize in Anambra State,” she said.
As he cautioned against any attempt to impose a parallel leaders or structure.
