As the African Democratic Congress (ADC) concluded its party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Chukwudi Onyejekwe of Aguleri has emerged as the party’s candidate for the Anambra East and West Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
The primary election, which was conducted across various wards within the constituency, recorded what party officials described as massive participation by party members and stakeholders.
The exercise covered communities stretching from the riverine areas of Olumbanasa to the agrarian communities of Anam, Umueri, Aguleri, Nzam, Otuocha, and Nsugbe.
At the end of the exercise, Hon. Onyejekwe secured a landslide victory with 7,828 votes, defeating his closest rival, Hon. Kenechukwu Offor of Anam, who garnered 624 votes.
Declaring the result, the representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Kingsley Ajunwa of the Department of Election Party Monitoring, officially announced Hon. Chukwudi Onyejekwe as the ADC flag bearer for the 2027 House of Representatives election for Anambra East and West Federal Constituency.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Hon. Chukwudi Onyejekwe, expressed profound gratitude to party members and constituents for what he described as overwhelming support and confidence in his candidacy.
“It is a resounding victory and a clear confirmation of my campaign slogan, ‘Handshake of Progress Across Anambra East and West.’ I sincerely thank my people for voting massively for me, standing firmly by me, and believing in our shared vision for the constituency,” he stated.
He described the outcome of the primary as a mandate for genuine development and people-oriented leadership, stressing that the electorate had rejected money politics in favour of competence, credibility, and purposeful representation.
“This victory is not just for Awande; it is a victory for improved agriculture, access to clean water, better road infrastructure, sustainable youth empowerment programmes, business grants, and overall socio-economic development across Anambra East and West,” Onyejekwe said.
The ADC candidate further assured party supporters that the momentum generated during the primaries would be sustained and translated into victory during the 2027 general elections.
“The ticket is sealed, our mandate is legitimate, and our vision is clear. We are taking this momentum straight into the general election as we align Anambra East and West with the national movement for a New Nigeria that is possible,” he added.
Addressing journalists on his next line of action, Onyejekwe maintained that his campaign team would intensify grassroots mobilization and strategic engagement across the constituency to ensure victory at the polls.
“We are going to work even harder to ensure not only that we win the election, but also that we fulfill every promise made to our people. We stand firmly on the solid foundation of the Supreme Court-recognized Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee. We have conducted a primary election that stands as a shining example of transparency, zero impunity, internal democracy, and grassroots participation,” he said.
Speaking further on voter participation, Onyejekwe noted that the large turnout recorded during the primaries reflected the people’s determination to change the political status quo in the constituency.
“With the massive turnout witnessed today, there is no gainsaying the fact that the people are ready for change. I assure you that come 2027, there will be a successful election, and by the grace of God, we shall emerge victorious,” he added.
Meanwhile, INEC disclosed that the total number of registered voters for the primary election stood at 4,668, while the number of accredited voters was 4,323, representing a voter turnout of 92.6 percent.
