CPN Demands Justice for Abused Anambra Domestic Help
The Child Protection Network (CPN), Anambra State Chapter, has condemned the alleged abuse and maltreatment of a minor, Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo, who was reportedly serving as a domestic help.
In a statement issued by the Anambra State Coordinator of CPN, Mrs. Anekwe Eucharia Ijeoma, the organisation reiterated its firm stance against all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse of children.
According to the statement, the Network received with deep concern reports and images circulating in the public domain regarding the alleged abuse and maltreatment of Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo, who was reportedly living under the care of an adult guardian as a domestic help.
CPN noted that the circumstances surrounding the case, as currently reported, are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns about the safety, protection, and welfare of children placed in the care of others.
“While we acknowledge the need for due process and a comprehensive investigation, the allegations are grave and demand urgent attention from all relevant authorities,” the statement said.
The Network emphasized that every child, irrespective of social or economic background, has an inherent right to protection, dignity, education, healthcare, and a nurturing environment that promotes healthy growth and development.
“We strongly condemn all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse against children. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and supportive environment free from fear, harm, and discrimination.
“We call on law enforcement agencies, child protection institutions, and relevant government authorities to conduct a prompt, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter. Where evidence establishes wrongdoing, those responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement added.
CPN further urged community leaders, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, faith-based groups, and concerned citizens to support ongoing efforts aimed at safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of children.
According to the Network, protecting children is a collective responsibility that requires vigilance, collaboration, and swift action whenever abuse is suspected or identified.
The organisation also stressed that beyond ensuring justice, there is a need for appropriate medical care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, and reintegration services for the child to aid his recovery and restore his sense of safety, dignity, and wellbeing.
CPN stated that the unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder that child abuse remains a significant challenge requiring sustained public awareness, stronger reporting mechanisms, effective enforcement of child protection laws, and greater commitment to safeguarding children at the family, community, and institutional levels.
Part of the statement reads:
“The Child Protection Network stands in solidarity with Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo and all children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or exploitation. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for policies, systems, and actions that protect children and uphold their fundamental rights.
“Justice for Chiziterem is not merely about addressing one case; it is about reinforcing society’s collective resolve that no child should suffer abuse without consequence. It is also about strengthening the systems and institutions responsible for protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that their rights are respected at all times.”
