NDC Disowns ‘Fake’ Candidate Lists, Alleges Plot to Create Confusion

By Prosper Okoye

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from purported lists of candidates circulating on social media for Imo, Abia, Anambra and several other states, describing them as fake, unauthorised and intended to mislead party members and the public.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, urged members, supporters and the general public to disregard the lists, stressing that they did not originate from the party’s national headquarters.
According to the NDC, the authentic list of its candidates for the forthcoming elections has already been duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the procedures and channels prescribed by the Electoral Act.
The party alleged that those behind the circulation of the purported lists were deliberately attempting to create confusion, undermine its internal processes and sow discord within its ranks.
It further disclosed that investigations had commenced to identify the individuals or groups responsible for the fabrication and circulation of the lists, as well as the circumstances surrounding their dissemination.
“The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,”
“They are being peddled by mischief-makers and individuals who do not wish the party well. The party is investigating the sources of these fabrications and leakages, as they represent desperate attempts to create ill will, generate confusion and distract the party from its mission and objectives.”the statement said.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its structures across the country and maintaining internal cohesion despite what it described as sustained efforts by detractors to undermine its progress.
The party also called on its members and supporters to remain focused, vigilant and united, assuring them that it remains committed to building a credible political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic and governance challenges.
It added that no amount of misinformation or deliberate distortion would derail its commitment to democratic principles, party discipline and the pursuit of its political objectives.
