Abia Government Begins Process to Flag Off Aba Commercial Smart City Project
The Abia State Government has commenced the process for the flag-off of the Aba Commercial Smart City Project, a transformative initiative designed to reposition Aba as a modern commercial and technology-driven hub.
The state governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, disclosed this in a statement he posted on his Facebook page on Friday.
Governor Otti made the disclosure during a business meeting with the leadership of the Aba Commercial Smart City Project at the Government House in Umuahia, where he expressed the state government’s commitment to the immediate flag-off and successful delivery of the project.
He charged all project partners to fast-track the necessary processes to enable the project to move swiftly from the planning stage to implementation.
According to the governor, the administration would not embark on projects that it was unwilling or unable to complete.
“In Abia, we do not believe in abandoned projects. We only embark on projects that we are determined to complete,” he said.
Governor Otti said he had also directed the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Office, Mr. Chinedu Chijioke, to work closely with the project team to ensure that the state government was adequately prepared for the project’s flag-off.
The governor commended the commitment of the Chief Executive Officer of Aba Commercial Smart City and former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, describing his contribution to the project as significant to the vision of restoring Aba to its pride of place as a leading commercial centre.
He also appreciated the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sir Dr. Mike Okiro, a former Inspector-General of Police, as well as the Founder and President of Aba Commercial Smart City, Ambassador Osita Offor, popularly known as the “Ultimate Commander,” for their roles in advancing the project.
Governor Otti further noted that Ambassador Offor had presented a financially realistic framework aimed at ensuring the successful execution of the project.
“The team also informed us that, through their financial adviser and partnering banks, they have secured an initial ₦20 billion to commence the project,” he said.
The governor described the Aba Commercial Smart City Project as a potential game changer for Abia State, noting that its emphasis on technology, innovation and strategic partnerships would contribute significantly to the state’s economic transformation.
“The Aba Commercial Smart City promises to be a game changer for our state. With technology, innovation, and strategic partnerships driving its development, we remain committed to ensuring that this vision becomes a reality for the benefit of Ndi Abia and generations to come,” he said.
