COOUTH Intensifies Preventive Healthcare Drive with Healthy Living Shop

By Titus Eleweke
The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, has strengthened its commitment to preventive healthcare with the establishment of a Healthy Living Shop offering nutritional guidance and healthier food options to patients, hospital staff and members of the public.
According to a statement issued by the hospital’s Public Relations Team, the initiative, introduced under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, forms part of the hospital’s ongoing transformation agenda to integrate healthy lifestyle practices into healthcare delivery.
The shop was commissioned two months ago by the First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, a prominent advocate of healthy living through her Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo platform.
The facility reflects COOUTH’s recognition that effective healthcare extends beyond the treatment of illnesses to encompass disease prevention, nutritional awareness and overall wellbeing.
Proper nutrition plays a vital role in preventing certain diseases, supporting recovery and improving general health. In line with this understanding, the Healthy Living Shop provides a range of nutritious food products and professional dietary guidance to help individuals make informed choices about their eating habits.
A key feature of the facility is its one-on-one consultation service with a dietitian, who offers personalised nutritional advice tailored to individual health conditions, dietary requirements and wellness goals.
Products available at the shop include fibre-rich foods, healthier condiments, nutritious beverages and other dietary options designed to support balanced nutrition and healthier living.
Patients managing medical conditions, individuals recovering from illnesses and members of the public seeking to improve their eating habits can also benefit from professional guidance on appropriate food choices and nutritional needs.
The initiative underscores Dr. Umeakuewulu’s commitment to making preventive healthcare an integral part of COOUTH’s transformation agenda by bringing wellness education and nutritional support closer to the people.
Through the Healthy Living Shop, the hospital aims to promote a more holistic approach to healthcare—one that combines the treatment of illnesses with preventive measures and empowers individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles for improved health outcomes.
The hospital has encouraged patients, caregivers, staff and members of the public to visit the Healthy Living Shop at COOUTH, Amaku, Awka, and take practical steps towards healthier living.
