Oko Polytechnic Management Seeks Plans With Police to Tackle Insecurity in Oko, Institution

The management of the Federal Polytechnic Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has sought collaboration with the State Police Command to address insecurity challenges in Oko,particularly around the Polytechnic campus and other Federal Government facilities in the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, it was reported that the Rector of the institution, Dr. Mrs. Chioma Irene Amuzie, made the appeal when she led a delegation from the Polytechnic management to visit the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday at the command headquarters in Awka.

According to Dr. Amuzie, the visit aimed to jointly develop plans to tackle specific security challenges in Oko, especially in and around the Polytechnic and other Federal Government installations.

The Rector also commended the Police for their prompt response during the recent incident where two people were killed, two others abducted, and several others affected. She praised the officers for preventing further loss of life and property.

Dr. Amuzie pledged to support the Police by enhancing surveillance efforts and providing necessary information to security agencies, particularly in the ongoing investigation of the incident.

During the visit, the Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu called for greater cooperation from the Polytechnic management to enable the Police to serve the community better.

CP Orutugu expressed regret over the unfortunate incident that occurred on June 19, 2025.

According to eyewitness accounts, armed criminals operating on a motorcycle and in a black Lexus 350 SUV,without a license plate opened fire indiscriminately at the Total Junction, injuring four people, including a woman.

He added that the hoodlums abducted two individuals at the Tipper Junction before fleeing the scene.

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigations Department, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department, and other senior officers.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a gift to the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko by the Commissioner of Police.
