INEC Opens Portal to Resume Continuous Voter Registration in Anambra on July 8

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the reopening of its portal for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State, set to commence on July 8. The nationwide exercise is scheduled to begin in August 18.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this disclosure during the commission’s quarterly meeting with political parties in Abuja.

According to him, in view of the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra, the CVR exercise will be conducted at two levels.

He explained that the exercise in Anambra State will be held across all 326 wards from July 8 to July 17, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, including weekends.

“During the registration period, new voters, as well as those who wish to transfer their registration to Anambra from other states, or from one location to another within the state, will have the opportunity to do so,” he stated.

“Similarly, registered voters whose Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were lost or damaged will be able to apply for replacements. Uncollected PVCs from previous registration exercises will also be available for collection at the registration centres. Eligible Nigerian citizens are encouraged to appear in person to register,” he added.

The INEC Chairman, however, noted that the online pre-registration option is currently unavailable.

Yakubu further explained that, in line with legal provisions, voter registration and the compilation of the voters’ register must be completed no later than 90 days before the date fixed for the election.

Regarding the nationwide CVR, he said the commission has approved the resumption of both online and in-person voter registration in all states of the federation.

“The online pre-registration will begin on August 18, while the in-person registration will commence on August 25. The exercise will be conducted simultaneously across all states, the Federal Capital Territory, and the 774 Local Government Area offices nationwide,” he said.

Professor Yakubu concluded by stating that a detailed schedule of activities would be released soon.
