Anambra CP Presents N8m to Families of 13 Fallen Officers Under IGP Welfare Scheme

The Anambra State Police commissioner CP Ikioye Orutugu handingover cheques to recipients of the Group Life Assurance and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Schemes funds on Friday

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has presented over ₦8 million to the families of 13 police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The financial support was provided under the Group Life Assurance and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Family Welfare Schemes.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Inspector-General of Police, is aimed at offering relief to the families of police personnel who died in active service.

It is also intended to motivate serving officers to remain committed to their statutory duties, with the assurance that the welfare of personnel remains a top priority for the Force’s leadership.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the presentation was made on Friday by CP Orutugu during the Command’s Monthly Meeting, held at the CP’s Conference Hall at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters.

Among those honoured was an Inspector who was tragically shot in error by a fellow officer at a police observation point along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway, near Danaks Fuel Station. The remaining recipients included families of 12 other fallen officers.

While handing over the cheques to the beneficiaries, CP Orutugu expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his unwavering efforts in ensuring a robust welfare package for members of the Force. He advised the recipients to make judicious use of the funds by investing in ventures that could provide long-term support for the dependents left behind.

During the meeting, the Commissioner also received security updates from Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across their respective jurisdictions.

He discussed new strategies to further enhance security and safety across Anambra State, charging officers to intensify their efforts in maintaining law and order.

The meeting also featured lectures delivered by various stakeholders. These included representatives from a renowned insurance company, the officer in charge of the Police National Housing Fund under the Mobile Surveillance Squad (MSS), the officer responsible for pensions, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Anietie Eyoh, who spoke on operational strategy.

CP Orutugu, however reassured Ndi Anambra that officers and men of the Command would continue to put in their utmost efforts to ensure lasting peace, safety, and security throughout the state.
