Anambra CP Warns Against Deliberate Spread of False Security Information to Incite Panic

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups spreading false information about the security situation in the state.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner said that the Police will no longer tolerate deliberate acts of misinformation intended to create panic among residents.

“In line with ongoing security assessments, individuals found responsible for disseminating false or inciting content aimed at causing fear or discrediting the Police and other security agencies will be thoroughly investigated and exposed. Appropriate legal actions will be taken in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and other extant laws,” he stated .

The Command expressed deep concern over the rising trend of individuals and groups intentionally sharing misleading or exaggerated security-related information via social media and other platforms, solely to instill fear and undermine public trust in security agencies.

“These actions are not only malicious but also sabotage the efforts of ongoing security operations and erode public confidence in law enforcement’s ability to maintain peace and order,” Ikenga stated.

The Police warned that it would henceforth take decisive action against those found culpable.

The Command reiterated that all such cases will be pursued vigorously, with offenders prosecuted under applicable laws.

He said the public is therefore urged to remain vigilant, refrain from spreading unverified information, and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities through the Command’s official communication channels.

According to him,the Commissioner further reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Anambra State, while maintaining transparency and professionalism in its operations.
