Abia Drug Marketers Set to Enter Regulated Market After Deal with KCHAqua Consortium

Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti

Pharmaceutical dealers in Aba, Abia State, may soon realize their long-held dream of securing a permanent site. This follows a meeting between the management of KCHAqua Consortium a construction, infrastructure, and property development firm and the leadership of drug markets in the state’s commercial hub aimed at fostering collaboration.

Chigbu Nwaobia, Head of Media and Communications at the consortium, stated on Monday that the meeting was convened by management to inform the major stakeholders off-takers about the state government’s approval of the project and to update them on the next steps.

The statement further noted that Chief Victor Amuta, former chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Abia State chapter, described the development as positive news for drug marketers.

He emphasized that operating within a regulated environment would confer legitimacy on their businesses.

Amuta also highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment, through the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), to eliminate open drug markets in Nigeria. He urged drug marketers to seize this opportunity to align with government policies on pharmaceutical product marketing by supporting the project.

Mr. Elvis Anoruo, Chairman of the Drug Dealers Stakeholders Group, expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for generously providing land for the project. He assured the consortium of his group’s full support.

Anoruo noted that the state government’s provision of land has alleviated the group’s long-standing challenges, including frequent harassment by NAFDAC and difficulties securing a permanent operational site.

“After many years of struggle and constant harassment by NAFDAC, we are grateful that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, has rescued us by making our move to a permanent site a reality.”he added.

Recall that the Abia State Government recently granted the KCHAqua Consortium approval in principle to execute the state-owned CWC project.
