The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday charged 264 newly recruited police constables to uphold the core values of integrity, discipline, courage, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Egbetokun’s message was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye.

The statement followed the Passing Out Parade of the new constables, drawn from Abia and Imo States, held at the Police Training School, Nekede, near Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Represented at the event by the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, the I-G urged the recruits to carry out their responsibilities with strict adherence to the rule of law and respect for human rights.

Egbetokun congratulated the constables, recruited under the 2022/2023 Batch B, for their endurance, discipline, and commitment throughout the training period.

He reiterated the police leadership’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, and enforcing the law without fear or favour.

In a goodwill message, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, represented by CSP Adamu Shaba, also reaffirmed his administration’s support for the police in the ongoing fight against crime and criminality.

Governor Uzodimma commended the police for their role in maintaining peace and security across the state, stating that their dedication and hard work have contributed significantly to Imo’s stability and prosperity.

He praised the Inspector-General for his visionary leadership and ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Police Force, while urging the new recruits to view their role as not merely a privilege, but a sacred duty to protect lives, uphold justice, and defend the rule of law.

Earlier, the Commandant of the Police Training School, Nekede, ACP Rilwanu Shuaibu, expressed appreciation to the IGP for his support and leadership.

He also thanked Commissioner Danjuma for his guidance and acknowledged the officers and instructors “who played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of the training programme.”

The event marked the completion of a rigorous training exercise for the 264 constables—159 from Imo State and 105 from Abia State.

Highlights of the ceremony included a ceremonial march-past and the presentation of awards to outstanding recruits who excelled during the course of the training.
