Obidient Movement Deploys 5,720 Commanders to Guard Anambra Polling Units

By OGEMDI OZOEMENAM, Awka

The Obidient Movement of the Labour Party (LP) has completed the inauguration of Polling Unit Commanders across all 5,720 polling units in Anambra State in preparation for the upcoming governorship election.

This move follows accusations that the movement failed to mobilize party agents in every polling unit nationwide during the 2023 General Election—a contest allegedly manipulated against the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who had won in eleven states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Briefing journalists in Awka ahead of the poll, the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, explained that deploying technology and 5,720 monitors is aimed at protecting the people’s mandate and ensuring the voices of Anambra citizens are neither stolen nor silenced, in line with its GO MERD Campaign.

He emphasized that the Obidients have established robust mechanisms and digital technologies to prevent any attempts to rig or manipulate the electoral process.

“Let it be stated unequivocally that the Obidient family is fully present across Anambra State. From Awka and Awkuzu to Nnewi, and throughout every community, ward, and village, our grassroots structures are alive, active, and alert,”

“The era when election results were manipulated behind closed doors is over. This generation of Nigerians—this generation of Obidients—will not allow electoral malpractice to continue.

“We are not just participating; we are prepared, coordinated, and resolute. Our young people, women, professionals, and volunteers have been mobilized and trained to monitor every stage of the process—from accreditation to vote counting and result transmission.

“We have developed technology that will publish real-time results from every polling unit to prevent any form of election rigging. Those attempting to buy votes will be exposed by our technology and face the full wrath of the law,” he added.

Dr. Tanko also warned other political parties that the Obidient Movement in Anambra is united, disciplined, and focused.

“There is no division, no faction, and no confusion. We stand together under one vision: a New Nigeria that begins at our polling units.”Dr. Tanko said.

While urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain impartial and professional, Dr. Tanko warned that any compromise of the electoral process would be met with lawful and democratic resistance.

“We also call on all security agencies to protect voters and ensure that every citizen can exercise their franchise without fear, intimidation, or inducement.

“To every Anambra citizen, we say this: your vote is your power. Protect it. Use it wisely. Stand firm for integrity, competence, and character.

“The world is watching. Nigeria is watching. The future is watching. And we, the Obidients, are ready.

“A new Anambra is possible, and together, we will make it happen.”he said.

Responding to questions from reporters, the Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party in Anambra State, Mr. Obinna Okafor (OCN), affirmed that Mr. Peter Obi is firmly backing Dr. George Moghalu, the party’s candidate for the November 8 governorship poll, and has accompanied him to several campaign events.

Regarding rumors of Dr. George Moghalu’s disqualification, OCN clarified that the individual who went to court did not participate in the primary election, and no court has disqualified Moghalu or issued an order against him.

“That is one of the most absurd reports we have encountered. The Supreme Court is clear: only participants in the election process have the right to approach the court. The young man who went to court did not participate in the primary.

“Moreover, the law stipulates a 14-day window for election-related court challenges. He approached the court in August, whereas the primary was held on April 5—long after the deadline had passed.

“Additionally, party primaries are a matter for the national leadership alone. The petitioner alleging that the Anambra LP did not conduct a primary has no legal basis,” OCN added.

The Spokesperson for the Obidient Movement in the South East, Ambassador Kingsland Ezeani, reiterated that the movement supports only one candidate—George Moghalu—backed by Peter Obi.

He added that a series of programs have been planned to ensure Moghalu’s victory in every polling unit across Anambra State on November 8.
