IPMAN Declares War on Meter Adjustments in Filling Stations

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu Depot, has expressed concern over ongoing reports of meter adjustments by some filling station operators within the zone.

In response, the leadership of IPMAN has constituted a task force committee to put an end to this unethical practice.

The Chairman of IPMAN Enugu Depot, Comrade Chinedu Anyaso, made this known while speaking with our correspondent about the reactions of petrol customers to the sharp practices reported among some operators.

According to him, IPMAN, as an organization, is firmly against the shortchanging of the public or any adjustments of meters by its members.

He explained that the issue was extensively discussed during their August general meeting, where they emphatically resolved to establish a task force to address and eradicate the problem.

Comrade Anyaso stated that the new task force, which will commence operations in the first week of November 2025 across Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi states, will ensure that filling station operators comply strictly with established standards.

He emphasized that the initiative is aimed at guaranteeing that customers receive the exact quantity of fuel they pay for.

“No one should shortchange anyone. We are totally against it. It is wrong and unacceptable—that is the official stance of IPMAN as a body,” he declared.

Mr. Anyaso further assured that the task force committee comprises trusted members known for their impeccable integrity, and they will work alongside the media and security agencies to achieve the desired outcome.

“So, we have no fear that the task force will collude with those shortchanging the public. These are men of integrity. We want to sanitize our house and ensure that everyone adheres to the standards so that whatever one buys is exactly what they receive,” he added.

The IPMAN Enugu Depot Chairman, while noting that petrol is a daily necessity, stressed that it is entirely unacceptable for any operator to cheat the public in any way or form.

He urged that if any member is caught engaging in such practices, reports should be promptly made to the IPMAN leadership for proper investigation and sanctions, including refunding affected customers where necessary.

Comrade Anyaso also noted that complaints could be directed to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority or the Weights and Measures office—both regulatory bodies responsible for ensuring that marketers conform to required standards.

Our correspondent reports that this statement followed a trending video in which a customer who purchased one liter of fuel from a filling station complained about the inaccuracy of the meter, sparking public reactions and sharing of similar experiences concerning such sharp practices.
