Gov Otti Recruits 500 Nurses to Strengthen Abia’s Healthcare Service Delivery
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the recruitment of 500 nurses as part of his administration’s effort to enhance and strengthen healthcare service delivery across the state.
In addition, the Governor has approved the implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for local government health workers in Abia State.
According to the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, who disclosed the development in Umuahia, the newly recruited nurses are currently undergoing documentation and deployment processes.
He explained that this recruitment drive will go a long way toward addressing the shortage of nurses in public health institutions across the state.
Prof. Uche emphasized that the recruitment exercise was conducted through a transparent and merit-based process, adding that the approval and implementation of CONHESS have finally eliminated the long-standing disparity between different categories of healthcare workers in the state.
“The implementation of CONHESS has been long overdue. Before now, the government had to verify and confirm the exact number of health workers in the various local governments to ensure accurate and fair implementation. With this approval, Governor Alex Otti has once again demonstrated his commitment to boosting the morale of health workers in Abia State,” the Commissioner stated.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information, Chief Okey Kanu, described the approval of CONHESS as part of the ongoing reforms within the state’s civil service.
“The state government continues to prioritize the welfare and working conditions of its workforce. This commendable step makes Abia one of the few states in the country implementing the Federal Government’s Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health workers,” Kanu said.
