Mrs Soludo Decries Ill-Treatment of Persons Living With HIV
The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has decried the ill-treatment and stigma often directed at people living with HIV, describing it as unfortunate and inhumane.
Dr. Soludo, who is also the founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, emphasized that society has a collective responsibility to protect, support, and accommodate people living with HIV whether at home, in schools, workplaces, places of worship, or any other environment.
According to her, “People living with HIV are humans like everyone else. Nothing makes them unfortunate or less human, nor should they be treated with disdain or hatred.”
She stressed that living with HIV is neither a form of punishment nor a death sentence.
“Yet again, it is important that everyone remains extremely cautious about activities that can lead to HIV transmission. The key word here is caution.
“We should also remember that routine testing is crucial. Overcoming the fear of HIV tests is something you must prioritize. As with most illnesses, early detection greatly improves disease management and, most importantly, ensures continued healthy living.
“Whatever needs to be done to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS must begin with us. Let us say YES to action,” she said.
