APGA Chieftain Defends Soludo’s Main Market Closure, Calls Critics’ Claims ‘Balderdash

A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, Evang Chinedu Obigwe, has defended Governor Charles Soludo’s decision to shut down Onitsha Main Market, saying the governor had no reason to target the market.

Obigwe stated this while reacting to claims that Soludo’s ban on Monday sit-at-home orders was selective.
He described such assertions as “balderdash”, saying circulars were sent to relevant institutions and markets before the Monday in question.

“The outcome of his visit to the main market last Monday was to ascertain compliance with the lawful government order for trade and other activities to resume. That informed his decision to take corrective measures against the abnormality being normalised by traders,” Obigwe explained.

He said Soludo’s action was in the long-term interest of traders and the people of Anambra State, adding that no government would allow criminal elements to disrupt normalcy.
Obigwe urged critics to stop politicising the issue, saying major stakeholders in Onitsha Main Market supported the governor’s decision.

“Governor Soludo is saying enough is enough to Monday sit-at-home orders. This is one of his best decisions, and he deserves commendation, not vilification,” Obigwe stated.
He expressed confidence that Anambra State was in good hands with Soludo, saying the governor had the state’s best interests at heart.

“Nobody loves and cares for Anambra State’s wellbeing more than Governor Soludo. Say no to illegal Monday sit-at-home orders,” he added.
