Army Chief Calls on Media to Expose Soldiers Involved in Illegal or Unprofessional Conduct

The Commander of the 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brig.-Gen. Ahmad Dikko, has charged journalists to report any soldier who accompanies celebrities or politicians unprofessionally or engages in illegal activities.

He made the call on Tuesday during a familiarisation visit by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, to the command headquarters at Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, Ohafia.
Insideoutnews reports that Dikko assumed office as the 18th Commander of the brigade on February 2, 2026.
Dikko urged journalists to promptly alert the command whenever they observe any misconduct.
“If you see a soldier performing an illegal duty, or following a celebrity around and carrying his bag, report it to us. I am serious,” .
“We will immediately take action. I promise you that. Help us to help society, help us to help the people, help us to help the nation.”he said.
The commander acknowledged that no organisation is perfect but stressed that the army can only improve through constructive feedback.
“We welcome criticism, we welcome constructive critique, and we welcome tip-offs—information that the larger society may not be aware of,” he added.
Emphasising the importance of the media in society, Dikko called for sustained collaboration between the military and the press to safeguard the nation.
He described the media as the primary channel through which the public perceives the army.
“You are our connection, our umbilical cord to the rest of society,” “We must have you on our side if we are to succeed.
“Security challenges exist everywhere in the world. Therefore, we cannot overestimate the importance of maintaining the right kind of relationship with the media.”he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of NUJ, Abia State Council, Mr Chidi Asonye, represented by Mr Felix Obani, Chairman of the Unity Federated Chapel, commended the command for its cordial relationship with other security agencies in ensuring a safe and secure Abia State.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to collaborating with the command to ensure the dissemination of accurate information about the army’s activities to the public.
