IWD: Nwankwo Celebrates Strength and Resilience of Nigerian Women
Dozie Nwankwo
Anambra Central Senatorial aspirant, Dozie Nwankwo, has congratulated women in Anambra State and across Nigeria on the occasion of the International Women’s Day (IWD), describing them as resilient, hardworking, and indispensable to national development.
In a message released in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Nwankwo celebrated the remarkable contributions of women to the family unit, the economy, and society at large.
He commended their resilience and determination in the face of social and economic challenges, noting that women remain central to the stability and progress of communities.
Nwankwo, a two-time member of the Nigerian House of Representatives who represented the Njikoka/Anaocha/Dunukofia Federal Constituency, is seeking to represent Anambra Central Senatorial District in the forthcoming general election.
Speaking during a meeting with members of his political family, the lawmaker said his decision to contest the senatorial seat was driven by his desire to expand his service to the people and continue using public office as a platform to improve the lives of Nigerians, particularly his constituents.
Marking International Women’s Day, Nwankwo described women as the pillars of families, the economy, and society, emphasizing that their contributions have continued to shape and advance global development.
Popularly known as “Onyendozi,” Nwankwo extended warm greetings to women across the world, with special recognition for women in Anambra State and Nigeria.
He commended them for their commitment, diligence, and exceptional resilience in sustaining homes, building businesses, and contributing to governance and community development.
The senatorial hopeful also reaffirmed his commitment to promoting greater inclusion of women in governance. According to him, Nigeria’s democracy will be stronger and more representative when women’s voices are more visible in both elective and appointive positions.
“As a nation, we must deliberately create opportunities that allow women to participate more actively in leadership and decision-making processes,” he said.
According to him, policies that empower women politically and economically are critical for sustainable national development.
Reflecting on his tenure in the National Assembly, Nwankwo noted that he has maintained a strong social, political, and economic relationship with the people of Anambra State, anchored on what he described as impactful representation and life-changing projects.
Among his achievements, he cited the attraction of the Enugwu-Ukwu campus of the Federal College of Agriculture, a project he said he is committed to strengthening by facilitating the establishment of its permanent site.
He further expressed his determination to deepen his engagement with the people of the senatorial district by delivering more “dividends of democracy” if elected to the Senate. According to him, his priority remains improving the welfare and opportunities available to residents across the local government areas that make up the district.
These include Njikoka, Anaocha, and Dunukofia Local Government Areas, as well as Idemili North, Idemili South, Awka North, and Awka South.
Nwankwo stressed that women occupy a unique and indispensable position in society, noting that they coordinate and sustain homes while also contributing significantly to community life and economic productivity.
He therefore urged men to accord women the respect, recognition, and support they deserve at all times.
A well-known advocate for women’s rights and advancement, Nwankwo used the occasion of International Women’s Day to renew his call for stronger legislative and policy frameworks that would promote gender inclusion and ensure that women play a greater role in governance and national development.
