Governor of Abia State Dr.Alex Otti
The Ukwa La Ngwa-Aba Union, the apex socio-political and cultural organisation representing the Ukwa La Ngwa people of Abia State, has endorsed Governor Alex Otti for a second term in office.
The union also pledged to mobilise support not only across the nine local government areas that make up Ukwa La Ngwa land, but throughout the state to ensure Otti’s re-election in 2027 and the consolidation of what it described as purposeful and people-oriented governance.
The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s general meeting held in Aba under the theme, “Shared Prosperity: Our Role in the Continuous Development of Abia State.”
The communiqué was jointly signed by the Leader of the Ukwa La Ngwa Nation, Chief Theo Nkire, and the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and President of the Ukwa La Ngwa-Aba Union, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa.
The meeting attracted prominent sons and daughters of Ukwa La Ngwa extraction from across Abia State and the diaspora.
Among those in attendance were members of the National Assembly and Abia State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, youth and women leaders, academics, trade unionists, civil society organisations, government appointees, religious leaders, and representatives of student bodies.
The union commended Governor Otti, through his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, who represented him at the meeting, for what it described as prudent management of state resources and the execution of people-centred projects across Abia State.
Projects highlighted by the union included the rehabilitation of critical public infrastructure and social amenities, the construction of modern bus terminals in Umuahia and Aba, extensive road rehabilitation and reconstruction projects, as well as the establishment of smart schools and modern healthcare facilities.
According to the communiqué, these initiatives have significantly improved infrastructure, public service delivery, and the overall living conditions of residents across the state.
The union also applauded ongoing efforts toward the creation of Aba State, acknowledging the contributions of the Aba Union, the Aba State Creation Movement, lawmakers, local government chairmen, and Governor Otti in advancing the agitation at the National Assembly.
On governance and economic development, the union noted the prevailing challenges of inflation, youth unemployment, and insecurity. It urged the state government to intensify support for agriculture, small and medium-scale enterprises, and the Aba industrial cluster in order to cushion the effects of the economic downturn on households and businesses.
The group further commended the administration for improvements in internally generated revenue and the introduction of a digitised tax collection system, which it said had reduced multiple taxation, curtailed harassment by illegal revenue collectors, and blocked financial leakages.
Politically, the union passed a unanimous vote of confidence on Governor Otti, citing visible achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and civil service reforms.
It appealed to all Ukwa La Ngwa indigenes not to contest the 2027 governorship election against the governor and urged aspirants from other political parties to step down in support of a united Ukwa La Ngwa front.
The union also expressed gratitude to the National Working Committee and National Executive Council of the Labour Party for granting Governor Otti a free nomination form for the 2027 governorship election.
It described the gesture as a recognition of his performance, integrity, leadership qualities, and role in stabilising the party while advancing the interests of Abia State at the national level.
In its concluding resolutions, the Ukwa La Ngwa-Aba Union formally adopted Governor Alex Otti as its sole candidate for the 2027 Abia State governorship election.
The union called on all Ukwa La Ngwa people to remain united, close ranks across political and sectional divides, and work collectively toward sustaining the developmental strides of the current administration.
